"Untitled"

Wow - time really flies...I can't believe I haven't posted in a month! Sierra and I just took a vacation to Ocean City, Maryland and returned last night. We had a very long 7 hour drive on the way back due to various construction areas. We had such a fun time, just like I remember from my annual trips there as a child. We stayed at the Carousel (thanks to a certain mother-in-law-to-be of my friend Luann) and Sierra just loved the ice skating rink. She even got autographs from the skaters and she has now started her own "odugraf" book, as she spelled it :-). We bought crabs for dinner one night...she loves them but can't eat a lot, so I only bought a half dozen and it was $20! They were very heavy, though, so well worth it compared to the skimpy ones I can find near home for $12/dozen. We also took a boat trip to Assateague Island and collected sea creatures in the bay and saw the wild ponies. I managed to beat her in miniature golf, but not by much - she made at or below par on most of the holes...but had a few of those 6 stroke frustration holes where you just stop trying and swing the club wildly out of anger for not making par. She collected a ton of shells which we will use for a craft project and she had a blast playing on the beach. I wasn't a very good playmate on day 2 or 3 because I neglected to sunscreen all of the appropriate areas and got a really bad burn on the tops of my legs - I put sunscreen all over Sierra, of course, who continued to get a nice even tan.

In other news, I am working at the art gallery for a few weeks to fill in for a friend that is on vacation, so I am getting a taste of what the "working world" is like after all of these glorious months of freedom. I am lucky that Sierra can come with me and take art classes while I'm working. I am about to learn a whole lot about setting up a general ledger in not-for-profit accounting, as while I'm filling in, I am also helping to switch them to a new accounting system and writing a database to house their donor software - I'm almost embarrased to take the *gulp* $8.90 per hour for these services. (In case you were wondering, I am definitely doing this more as a favor and NOT for the compensation!!) There's a chance that Haywood and I can share a contract for a local company looking to replace their computer tech. They offered to pay us the same rate they pay the guy's consulting firm, which would be awesome and definitely worth it to work an extra hour or two during the week.

Well, I'm off to go check the tivo to see what shows recorded while I was gone. I think there's a new episode of 30 days, so I hope it's interesting. For those that haven't seen it, it's a new show on FX that basically shows 30 day life changing experience. It's by Morgan Spurlock, the creator of Super Size Me. The first one I saw was a guy who went on steroids and supplements and human growth hormone in an attempt to regain his high school physique. Last week's was about a Christian that lived in a Muslim household for 30 days and I think this week's is about a homophobic twentysomething male who goes to live in the Castro district of San Francisco.

Signing off, but I will try to encourage Sierra to update her blog sometime this weekend...she's worse than I am!
