"Sierra's Last Day of School"

Just got back from picking Sierra up from her last day of school. She had a wonderful year and she is sad about leaving her teacher and friends. I am so proud of her...her bus driver told her this morning that she was the best on the bus and that she didn't have to reprimand her once the entire school year. Her teacher told me today she would love to have a class full of Sierras and said that she was always very sweet to the other children and that everyone liked her as a result.

Now I've got to get on the ball and line up some fun summer activities for her. She has started a blog, but she, like me, will probably not write every day. She has only one entry so far and she is doing her own spellings so bear with her! http://sierraschildhood.blogspot.com

When she's done blogging, it can be published into a book...has anyone seen this? It's a pretty neat idea and very reasonable - Blogbinders.com

That's all for now...we have friends coming into town this weekend, so I need to get caught up on laundry!

"Pretty as a Picture"

I haven't posted any pics of Sierra lately, so here's one I really like. I took this on picture day while we waiting for the bus.

"Lotsa Problems"

Well, we have had a very eventful couple of weeks. We have been spending money hand over fist these days and I'm just hoping nothing else goes wrong. Haywood bought a grand piano and then we had major other bills hit, like real estate taxes, the cookware I bought, our gas tank refill. Then last Friday our refrigerator broke! I noticed that everything in the freezer was covered in frost and then it erratically went from cold to warm to cold again, so my dad came up and helped me pack up all of our food and then he and my mom crammed everything into their fridge and freezer. I had just bought tons of frozen steaks from one of those door to door meat salesmen (they actually weren't too bad), so I was glad we were able to save everything. It seems like every day something else breaks.

My exhaust died on the civic, so until I have a free second, I'm driving around sounding like most other civics that people have added specialty exhausts to :-) Last night, I looked up at the ceiling in the guest bathroom to find two huge water spots, so I knew there was some kind of problem with our AC unit in the attic. Our condensate line was cracked in several places and water had covered the entire surface of the ceiling drywall...ugh. Haywood sopped it up with a towel and I created a temporary hammock out of a trash bag to catch any remaining drips. Today, my dad's going to come up and we're going to replace the condensate line and hopefully we'll be okay.

I am also going to replace the refrigerator part myself, because I can't see spending $150 or more for the service guy to come when I purchased the part myself for $54. I just hope this actually fixes the problem, but as far as I can tell, the start relay that controls the compressor is fried. Evidently it is fairly common in newer refrigerators. Boy do I look back on 3-4 years ago with envy when our house and applicances were brand new. I can't believe how things are made so cheaply these days! We're still waiting for resolution about our television - it has had a green spot since we bought it and had developed a "red push" in the center that was especially visible on black screens. We paid $500 for the stupid protection agreement and so far, we had one service call back in January and the part was supposedly ordered, but now the third party vendor who handles the protection agreement for our area has dropped the ball and has never come back with the part and has lied to Sears and given us different stories about why the part is not there. When i call sears, they transfer me to 2 different people and the last person transfers me to the repair vendor and then somehow during one of the transfers i always get disconnected and then have to start all over again to try to get through. I just tried again and Sears guy couldn't even get through to them so he had to call me back. I waited for 2 hours and heard nothing, then as soon as I took a shower, he called and said the company would "call me later with an update" - argh. Since when does it take 6 months to order a freaking part?

Afternoon update (since I forgot to publish my rant earlier)
And for the last saga of the day, I finally tracked down the guy who paved our driveway last year - I have been calling him for months and have gotten no response. We have a one year warranty and wanted to have some repairs made, but couldn't find him. Well, he was paving a neighbor's driveway today and I stopped and talked to him and he agreed to come look at our problems. Hopefully he will be back in one to two weeks to make the repairs, so things are looking up.

I picked up the part for the refrigerator today and just installed it, so I will know soon if things are fixed. I didn't hear the annoying clicking and cycling on and off that I did before, so I think it's working!

The last project of the day will be to tackle replacing a section of condensate line in our attic to eliminate the leak. I have never done this before, but it's pvc pipe, so you get to use that purple pipe primer that has the little ball-shaped swab, then join the pipes with pvc cement. It should be fun - I just know it's going to be roasting hot in the attic, so I may wait until tonight. I guess this post is long enough now - if you read this far, you are truly crazy, but i thank you!
