"Interview Update"
Well, I had my interview yesterday afternoon and, all things considered, I think it went well. Imagine my surprise when I walked in to find out I was being interviewed by the whole department (only 5 people, but 4 more than I expected!!) It was a bit stressful, because they went around in circles, each asking me some questions. I feel I gave a lot of good answers and for once, I feel that I got to say all of the major things I wanted to.
However, I may end up not getting the position, not because they didn't like me, but because it requires at least a provisional teaching license and I am not sure I'll qualify due to certain classes that I have not yet taken. There should be a workaround for them to issue me a local license good only for my county, but I'm not sure how that will work because the assistant superintendent and the superintendent are both leaving their jobs very soon - great place to work, eh? :-)
There is also a regular tech support position, which I qualify for, but I think because they saw that I was pursuing teaching (since I just took the Praxis II test) they decided to try me for this role, which would be 50% support and 50% instructional technology integration - teaching teachers how to integrate technology with their lesson planning and course deliveries. Problem is - I think they're already interviewing separately for the other position, so if my license doesn't go through, then I'll be stuck with nothing :-( Makes me wish now that I hadn't tried to be proactive and go towards the teaching path.
One funny note...of the 5 interviewers, 2 were former teachers of mine - Reading and Language Arts from middle school. I was glad to see them again, but kind of felt like it was judgement day - "let's see how this student of ours turned out!"

"Hiya"
In my last post I announced my plans to look for a job with the good ol' educational system. I took my Praxis II exam on April 16th and I can't say how I did, because I honestly don't know. I know I missed several easy questions because they were things I didn't really study that I could only narrow down to 2 choices, but then again, I know that I got some others correct, so I'll just have to patiently wait 2.5 more weeks for the scores to be sent out.
I applied for the new IT jobs that the State of Virginia mandated (thank you, State of Virginia) for all school districts and they called me for an interview! So tomorrow at 2pm, I'll have my first interview since 1996, when I was hired by Verizon. Argh. I am about to go through my closet to see what suitable attire I might have for this grand event and then I am going to review the job descriptions, generate a list of questions for them and make a mental note of my strengths and weaknesses and I should be ready. I just hope they don't ask me any thoughtful questions because frankly, I am not in the mood to be thoughtful.
